The thread you can't see

The thread you can’t see

My client A. recently decided, on a whim, to set up a projector in her backyard and invite friends over for an outdoor movie night.

Last minute. No big deal. Just… something fun to do.

Not long before that, she put together a full costume to go see a movie in theaters. Not a premiere. Just a regular day.

These are just two tiny examples of the ways she brings fun and whimsy into her life and others’. It’s just who she is.

So when she shares these moments with me as her coach, I reflect back to her that this part of her genius. “Keep giving this credit, this is special, this matters .”

At first she kind of laughs it off.

Of course she does those things. Doesn’t everyone?

They don’t.

The gifts that come most naturally to us are almost always the hardest for us to see.

They feel like nothing—like swimming to a fish.

We’ve always done them. They don’t feel very special. They feel like just… us.

But that ease IS the gift. That’s the point.

It’s the sign of your genius.

My teacher Gay Hendricks coined the term "Zone of Genius" in his book “The Big Leap.”

My mentors at the Conscious Leadership Group made it one of their 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership.

The opposite commitment—the one you’re making if you’re not committed to your genius—is: "I commit to holding myself back and not realizing my full potential by living in my areas of incompetence, competence, and excellence."

Excellence is where most high achievers get stuck. Not the stuff you’re bad at. The stuff you’re good at.

It feels like “real work”—it’s hard, it takes effort. You can justify getting paid for it, spending time on it as a responsible adult.

But it drains you.

Your Zone of Genius is the place where your gifts and your joy overlap.

Where things feel almost embarrassingly easy. Where you lose track of time.

Where people can’t quite figure out how you do it—because to you, it doesn’t feel like doing anything at all.

Finding your Zone of Genius, and living in it more and more often, is one of the keys to a life of true satisfaction.

But it’s really really hard to see your own genius. It’s like a fish trying to see that swimming is a talent.

That’s why I’m adding something special for anyone who enrolls in coaching with me by August 8: a bonus Wild Genius Mapping Session .

It’s a dedicated, private, extra session where I interview you about the moments you’ve felt most alive, most effective, most fully yourself.

We uncover the unique thread running through your life and work—the gifts that are obvious to everyone around you and somehow still invisible to you.

This isn’t a regular coaching call. It’s a map of your genius.

It’s a clue to what will have you wake up every day feeling most aligned, alive, and on purpose.

It may still take a while to shift into fully living it, but at least you’ll have a map to consult.

If you’ve been thinking about working with me, let this be your reason to move now rather than later.

Because when you live more and more in your genius, your life gets better than you could even predict.

To your full aliveness,Rachel
