Leap and the net will appear

Leap and the net will appear

In 2018, I quit my job with no idea what came next.

Well, that’s not entirely true. I knew one thing.

A few days later, I drove to southwest Utah for a 12-day guided vision quest.

Beyond that quest, though, I had literally no plans or commitments for the rest of my life.

I had no idea what I was going to do. I had no idea who I wanted to be.

I only knew this: the life I had built no longer fit. And I was done pretending it did.

My heart wasn’t in it. My soul was craving something else.

The something remained a mystery.

So I set out to find it.

I wanted to discover what was calling me.

It was exhilarating.

I had always been a straight-A student. A good girl.

I moved from high school to a top college. Then a job. Then graduate school. Then another job.

I had a boyfriend. We got married.

I had followed the script.

But I wasn’t happy. And at a certain point, I leapt.

In a single year, I suddenly became a 36-year-old unemployed divorcee without a permanent address.

My parents were worried. My friends were confused.

My own mind was often distressed and doubtful about my choices.

But my soul was insistent, and so I persisted.

The next year was exciting, uncomfortable, and full of change.

I worried about money. I worried about meaning. I wondered if I was on the right path.

Still, I kept listening. I kept leaping.

One of my favorite books, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron, includes this line: “Leap and the net will appear.”

This is how most of 2018, most of 2019, most of my life since then has worked out.

I stopped waiting to be sure I was right before I moved ahead.

I learned to love my reasons. I learned that momentum is messy. I learned that being wrong is better than staying vague.

And I love the life I’ve landed in.

The thing is, I’m not sure I would have found my way through it all… I’m not sure I even would have made the leap in the first place…

If I hadn’t had a coach.

It’s one thing to love a quote like, “Leap and the net will appear.”

It’s another thing to be brave enough to actually do it.

And it’s something else entirely to stay centered and brave as you’re plunging through the air, waiting for the net.

Having support made all the difference.

It was SO helpful to have someone who had solidly landed in a worldview I was brushing up against, aspiring to, and courting.

Someone who didn’t think I was crazy.

Someone who helped me avoid a few choices that weren’t right for me.

I moved through a season of challenge, change, and growth with a deep sense of aliveness and almost no regret.

What about you?

Do you feel the pull to leap?

Do you sense that it’s time to trust that a net will appear?

If so, maybe this is your sign to get support for the journey.

I offer weekly coaching for people who are leaving a life that no longer fits and creating one that does.

You don’t need to know what it will look like.

You only need to hit reply and we’ll find a time to talk.

Adventurously yours,

Rachel

PS – There’s never been a better time to start coaching. Not only is it a way to guarantee you’ll finish 2026 on a completely different path than you would otherwise, but if we start working together before August 8, you’ll also receive a complimentary Zone of Genius Mapping session.

This focused interview will help you uncover your Zone of Genius —the work you love most and the work that makes your greatest contribution to the world.

In other words, your soul’s calling.

And yes, interviewing people happens to be one of my own zones of genius.

Let’s go.
