Flip a Coin

Flip a Coin

“What should we do tonight?” he asked. “Watch a movie, or play a game?”

“They both sound good,” I answered.

“I’m also happy either way,” he said.

So we turned to one of the oldest decision-making tricks in the book: We flipped a coin.

(Actually, we didn’t have a coin handy, so we flipped his phone, but same idea.)

This was a pretty low-stakes decision, of course.

But I want to remind you that you can flip a coin whenever you’re stuck deciding about anything.

Here’s the twist: You can use the coin flip as a decision maker, yes.

But you can also use it as a tool to clarify your own inner preferences.

I’ve been doing this since I was about 8 years old, and I recommended it to a client just last week.

Can’t tell what you really want? Have fate decide…then see how you feel about the decision.

If tails hits with a wave of disappointment and you realize you’d much rather do the heads option, then hurray! Now you know what you really want. Go do it.

If you’re elated or neutral about the coin flip result, then great. Stick with that and get moving.

As my mother often told me, “If the decision feels hard, it’s probably because there’s no wrong answer.”

Let fate decide…or let fate show you what you really care about. Either way, it’s a good path forward.

Decidedly yours,

Rachel

PS – Hard truth alert: If you look at your calendar for the week and feel your heart sink, you’re not making good decisions about how you’re spending your time. I also guarantee there’s good reasons you’re not choosing wisely. If you’re ready to take responsibility for your daily experience and want support creating something different, hit reply and we can talk about coaching. The consultation is free.
