I’ll be honest—this week I’m phoning it in a little, because life is asking a lot of me right now.
So I’m handing the mic to someone older and wiser, and letting his words do the work.
Don Miguel Ruiz is a Toltec wisdom teacher best known as the author of “The Four Agreements.” This gem comes from a different book, compiled by his son, called “Don Miguel Ruiz’s Little Book of Wisdom.”
“Based on desire, you will make many of the choices in your life.
Desire can lead you in two different directions: inspiration or obsession.
With inspiration, you move toward something you want to create.
You are willing to change, to flow with life when new information becomes available.
With obsession, you demand that your desire must be fulfilled exactly the way you want it to be fulfilled.
If it isn’t, you judge yourself for not reaching it.
Channel your desire into an inspiration rather than an obsession, because with inspiration your life becomes blessed as everything becomes extremely easy.
You are willing to work hard to fulfill your desire, but you are not attached to the outcomes because you know it will always be perfect.”
This hits home, because for the last couple weeks I’ve been in the middle of some personal challenge that has me practicing exactly this:
wanting something deeply…
working toward it…
and releasing my grip on how and when.
I love letting my desires matter.
I love a life set in motion by what I want.
And yet—how not to cling too hard.
How to say “good” to whatever comes.
Less obsession. More inspiration.
Which do you lean towards? Where could you loosen your grip?
To your full aliveness,
Rachel
PS – Here’s what I know after years of coaching high achievers: the obsession pattern doesn’t just affect one area of life. It seeps into everything—your work, your relationships, your body, your sleep. If you’re tired of being run by the grip, let’s talk. First consult is free.
