You know that scene in, like, 1000 different movies, where the hero goes from not knowing how to win to knowing how to win?
It’s like the training montage in a Rocky movie, or Matilda learning to use her powers, or Spider-Man crashing into buildings while he figures out his webs
It wouldn’t be a very good movie if the hero just walked in already ready to win.
They have to work for it. They have to learn something. They have to struggle along the way.
There has to be something at stake if they fail—and failing has to seem possible.
That’s where a good story starts to take shape.
So why should our lives be any different?
Yet so many of us (me included) have an absolute allergy to failure.
We think we’re supposed to already be good at The Thing—even if it’s new, different, or a stretch from where we’ve been.
We’re afraid to even try because we might fall on our face.
Well, here’s something a fellow Big Leap Coach shared this week:
What if F.A.I.L. just stands for First Attempt In Learning?
Did you just go for it and lose?
Zoom out a little and place this moment in the training montage of your life.
Suddenly there’s no problem.
You’re just getting there.
You’re a kid wobbling as he learns to walk.
You’re a triumph story in the making… you just haven’t reached the montage climax yet.
Keep going, my friend.
This is just the first attempt, and you’re learning.
Tenaciously yours,
Rachel

PPS – Perfectionism and fear of failure are just two of the ingrained voices in our heads that sure make life less fun, meaningful, and comfortable. I help high achievers tune into a deeper channel and unhook from the inner critic so they can find a more fulfilling life, right where they are. “Every time we talk I either have new realizations or I\’m able to get new tools to change my patterns of thinking,” said one client this week.
